Backyard Weddings Are In…Finally!

When I got married back in 2005, I planned two celebrations for practical reasons. Most of my family and childhood friends were in Puerto Rico.  But we lived in Los Angeles, the most convenient location to most of our current friends.

We ended up having the civil ceremony and reception in Old San Juan and our Jewish wedding in our backyard —  and saved both on guest travel and all those transportation-related carbon dioxide emissions.  The star of that backyard party was a paella maker who cooked his dish in a humongous pan while guests checked up on the progress of the cooking every five minutes, watching and salivating.

So now the New York Times has declared the backyard (and cheaper) wedding a new trend.  And as you know by now if you read this blog, smaller and cheaper is always green. We like!
