Live Streaming the Wedding

Looking to trim that guest list? As I wrote in “Green Wedding,” streaming the ceremony live from its location to relatives and friends all over the world is an option for couples who don’t want a big wedding yet still want to have their loved ones be part of the celebration.

The advantage of the virtual approach: at anywhere from  $200 to $1,600 per event, (depending on your own involvement with the technical aspects of the webcast,) you save thousands of dollars in wedding expenses and you do the environment good by downsizing and consuming less.

Now, it turns out, many couples are also opting for a webcast out of pure exhibitionism! A recent story in the wedding section of the New York Times reported that while some couples just want to include relatives or friends who can’t make it to the wedding, “social-media-savvy couples want to beam their weddings to the digital universe in hopes they that will go viral.”

Lets just hope those couples are also being green by cutting down the guest list!
